This week, Twitter revealed that they have announced that they are officially turning off version 1.0 of their API. The decision was made to promote the version 1.1 of their API. This API version requires authentication on all requests made to Twitter servers, which implies that the majority of Twitter applications as well as code snippets would need to be updated in order to utilize the latest version. This applies to our WooThemes Twitter widgets.

Although this is an issue in the development community, with blackout tests being run using the Twitter API in the last couple of months, we unfortunately dropped the ball on the release of an update users everywhere.

What do you think of WooThemes' Twitter widgets?

Following the introduction of the WooDojo plugin, which comes with the Twitter Tweets and a Twitter Profile widget We decided to provide for these widgets in our themes, in favour of including the widget within the theme in its own. This allows us to build on a single source code, tweak the code and eventually, speed up updates.

I'm using a widget from Twitter included in my theme, and it's broken. What do I do?

Use the Twitter widgets that come together with WooDojo instead of the widget that comes with the theme.

The Twitter widgets are scheduled to be eliminated from the majority of WooThemes themes in favor of Twitter widgets bundled within WooDojo.

How do I upgrade?

What has changed with the latest Twitter widgets?

Like we said, the Version 1.1 of the Twitter API demands authentication for each request made to it. It is unfortunately outside of our reach.

The process for setting up the system might seem overwhelming at first, it only takes a few minutes and is a once-off operation.

We've put together a detailed guide on how you can set up your API keys for the latest version 1.1 of Twitter's API.

Once the API keys are created After that, the Twitter widgets will work just as they do.

Looking forward with WooDojo

We dropped the ball in getting this out to you all. We hope you will accept our apology and update up to WooDojo version 1.5.3, to make use of our newly updated Twitter API integration.

If you're having difficulty setting up your API keys, or if our guide did not help, you can submit a ticket over on our Help Desk which is where our expert Support Ninjas are available to assist.
