Information about the fiber artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist as well as an illustrator living in Baltimore. I came to Baltimore in order for school at MICA, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) which is where Nicole Mueller and I met and became friends before we began the Beyond the Studio podcast together. In the past nine years I've built up my small art business close Call Studio which I run in full-time.

What would you say about your personal style?

My approach to art making, whether that's drawing, sewing or whatever is unselfconscious and meant to delight and inspire others. It's possible to be moody and explicit and some of my pieces can seem a bit dark but there's always an element of comedy and fun to be found.

What's the secret to creating art?

It varies from season year, however having the mindset that is "no pressure" in the studio is a must for me right now. I've always put a great deal of pressure on myself which didn't reflect effectively in my professional or personal life so creating space for rest and gardening are just as imperative to my process when I sit down to draw.
