The fiber-artist Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist as well as an illustrator who is based in Baltimore. I came to Baltimore in order to go to MICA, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in which Nicole Mueller and I met and began to become friends. It was before that we started the Beyond the Studio podcast together. Over the last nine years, I've been building up my small art business Close Call Studio where I work in full-time.

How would you describe the style you prefer?

My approach to art making, whether it's sewing, drawing or drawing is not self-conscious, intended to entertain and inspire others. It's possible to be moody and clear and my work can be kinda dark but there's always an element of humor and playfulness involved.

What are the keys to making your art?

It varies from season season but currently holding an attitude of "no stress" at the drawing table is a must for me in the present. I've always put a great deal of pressure on myself which didn't reflect positively on my work or living. Therefore, allowing spaces for relaxation and garden are as essential to my process as sitting down to draw.
