The Academity 12,000-Strong Community's Impact is Broadening the Definition of Gifted Education

Dec 2, 2022

Her journey to business began with a Texas classroom. In her time as teacher for more than 10 years, she has made a large part of her professional life in promoting the achievements of gifted children in places in which their needs aren't being satisfied.

"It is a common practice in the public school system that gifted pupils have to take care of them in the best way possible to realize their full potential , and that their full potential may never be fully realized," Meredith explains. "Students that may not be viewed like typical gifted kids require educators who are trained to comprehend their individuality and needs. They should be able to accept their own uniqueness, opinions, or beliefs honored and respected. ."

When she was in her class, Meredith realized that there was a lack of methods within her particular field of expertise. There were no high-end online professional learning services which could offer teachers the finest methods to teach gifted education.

Just two months ago Meredith took the choice to expand her love of gifted education and to provide education to everyone else in the world. With only her college diploma, she created Academity which is an online community for learning that offers researched and well-designed programs that satisfy the needs for teachers engaged in the field of gifted education.

In the past, more than 12,000 educators took part in her workshops. Here's how she did it.

Jump ahead:

  1.       She made a leap of faith and didn't have any prior experience in business.
  2.       Her aim was to establish an unnatural, inclusive community
  3.       She created an easy sales funnel
  4.       She combined her unique program with frameworks that are already in use
  5.       Team members were united in their mission
  6.       She capitalized on the advantages of online communities by using discussion forums
  7.       She made use of the features that are advanced and the accessibility of HTML0.

The lady made a risky decision even though she did not have any experience in business.

In the present, Meredith remains transparent about her experience. She had no prior experience in business prior to starting her journey through online courses. In the end, she's learned to see this as something positive.

"It may appear like a lot, however, I have no understanding about anything that has to do with industry. I'm from the educational world and am a geek. I'm a geek. am always interested in learning about the latest technologies. My fascination in technology has led me into the field of technology," she says.

"I'm pretty comfortable jumping into something even if it's terrifying. As someone who has knowledge of schooling, I will do my best to impart to my children that it's OK to make mistakes. Positive results can be a result of things not going well. If something doesn't work it is possible to improve the situation .'"

Even with the less traditional abilities, Meredith was able to find a gap that she could make.

"Within my state, Texas the state of Texas, there are thirty hours of education that teachers have to undergo to be experts in gifted and skilled education. Teachers in general, there's expected of them in this process, and there's very little money or time invested in it," she explains.

It was the time when her school district was using an outdated approach to training, which was proven to be an unreliable option. One of the main reasons why Meredith started to explore online courses.

"When the pandemic began to spread at the start of the outbreak, there were several schools in the Houston region that required instructors to be educated and there was no way to do it because the training was conducted in person. In that moment, I thought"Whoa we should create training courses. We'll test it out,'" she recalls.

"Everyone was awed by everyone was awed by the class. One of the comments I got was "This was probably the most enjoyable class I've ever attended. It was interesting and fascinating ."

Her goal was to create an organic, like-minded community

After the initial reaction was positive, Meredith discovered that she had had discovered something special. Meredith continued to expand her curriculum and elective courses and provide assistance to the Houston community. In the following years, the school was expanded to other district in the state.

Meredith states that she is capable of putting a significant portion of her success thanks her distinctive methods of marketing.

"Word of mouth" is very important. It's not like teachers are rolling dough therefore I brought it into my marketing strategies. The thing I like in this method is the fact the fact that these teachers are united in their belief in equity. ."

In comparison to more conventional methods she has employed, Meredith found this personalized approach to marketing that's more intimate will be an enormous success in interacting with those who are in the market way that is more effective.

"Me as well as my readers share the desire to assist in teaching gifted kids and to expand the definition for giftedness education. In action, we can see that we are positively impacting many schools and districts. The whole process is a matter of the common messaging I am a proponent of. ."

To increase the quality of this interaction, Meredith was intentional to establish connections with those she already knew in the education world. As a fellow teacher, she joined forces with various parent associations and with the Texas Association of Gifted Children to be a part of events, to appear in various publications and to receive recognition.

She designed an easy funnel for sales

Furthermore, Meredith established a sales funnel which allowed her to turn her existing customers into loyal, paying customers.

"I chose to provide one of my training courses gratis. It proved to be an excellent test for teachers who aren't able to complete the minimum number of hours required. You can take a no-cost three-hour course," she explains.

"I've gotten numerous customers that approach me for different reasons. They're saying"Oh, I've finished the course in this time frame, I'd prefer to have just a couple of minutes to complete something else. Also, these test courses are extremely effective at getting valuable feedback. This is why I've been very careful when designing these courses to ensure that I am able to keep feedback flowing ."

She combined her groundbreaking course using frameworks in use

With the increase in student numbers, Meredith realized that she held a distinctive position with regards to her course curriculum. There was a scientifically proven curriculum for training available on the market and she was equipped with the equipment and knowledge to enhance the quality of it.

"When I developed my plan I realized that of the different requirements. I created a mind map of the most important aspects that needed to be addressed during the 30-hour period. From there, I could create the exciting other aspects," she says.

"I'm extremely committed to staying at the top of the class in regards to my studies. As I was writing these classes, I constantly was wondering, "What is it that the public is saying about this? Why do we have to keep repeating this? What can I do to instruct this set of standards with enthusiasm? What is the most important aspect I must do to be able to prove my understanding is satisfactory? What's the level of understanding I'd like my teachers to depart with? ?"

Meredith could answer the questions that mattered because of her experience as a lawyer but also because of her ability to think in terms of equity.

"I am a doctoral scholar in gifted education. Therefore, I was able to feel confident about filling any gaps that came up in the design of curriculum content. In addition, I used an approach that was thoughtful when designing my course curriculum using an inclusive mindset. I ensured that I'm not writing the syllabus solely from a white, female, Texas teacher's perspective. I attempt to include a variety of different perspectives."

She ensured that her team had a shared goal.

From the very beginning of Academy's creation until the present, Meredith has placed great importance on the significance in dispelling the stigma surrounding gifted education. It is a personal mission which she has laid the foundation for her education course as well as the business design.

The author states that there's no government-issued definition of gifted educational opportunities in Texas however it's believed to be the Academity community has created their own definition of gifted education.

"Several definitions of gifted education are insufficient and out of date. I am a believer in the model that describes a kid who needs more than the typical curriculum gives the child. They're among their peers, but they're struggling. My aim is to give an understanding to the world." She states.

Meredith is making it her goal to ensure that Academity's all staff members and instructors are unison in this goal. She believes this has played a major part in the overall success of her school.

"We do not agree with the conventional view that giftedness could be a synonym for strange. There is a myriad of ridiculous myths that can be a part of the politics of populism and. For a long time, the gifted education system was rid of discrimination and injustice. Our goal is to alter the story in order to identify children who need more education than they currently receive," she says.

The fundamental value proposition of the Academity ensures that everyone in the Academity team are working toward the same end. If there is no goal to be defined, there is no way to achieve it.

She took advantage of the advantages of online communities through forums to discuss topics

This common goal is evident across all levels of The Academity Community. Meredith believes that all of her larger community of 12,000 members are dedicated to her distinctive method to teach talented students.

"One of the most fun aspects of my classes is the discussion boards that discuss the question 'What is gifted?' Teachers can contribute to the entire State of Texas about what they think about giftedness. The main questions are"Is this child gifted or is he gifted? What is the difference between bright and gifted? Do they need more than the amount they're currently receiving?" She asks.

"By discussing the issue individuals typically tend to behave in the an identical way, but they leave with completely new perspective."

7. She utilized the most recent and easily accessible tools

Meredith believes that the Academity platform has unlocked unlimited possibilities for Academity's platform regardless of whether one is thinking about the presentor the past or even the future.

The day Academity was established, Meredith longed for an user-friendly platform that would help her realize her dream. Similar to many other writers of courses, she's discovered that the offerings of Academity are perfect to her needs and that of her business.

"One benefit I enjoy about this platform is that it has an extremely little amount of training required to figure out how to maximize its capabilities. As a developer, designer as well as for the students in the course, I've only encountered a handful of technical hurdles that I've encountered," she says.

"Right from the beginning, I was able to modify my idea for the Academity platform and design an ultra-modern and minimalist user interface. Templates for templates for courses can be extremely helpful and been able to provide the needed support sources," she says. " It's made everything possible."
