Welcome to our conversation with the illustrator from Canada design, creative, and instructor Maia Faddoul. Maia is an early-generation Canadian artist, who operates in her Montreal studio. She produces vibrant and colourful illustrations for packaging, publishing, and more. Her style is high-contrast colorful, and bold usually with a subtle message of social justice hidden in.

Maia is a total color-lover and kind of a maximalist in her style of art. Maia makes use of her artwork as a means to communicate her opinions, voice out about injustices and spread consciousness to causes that mean to her.  I think of my drawing style as 'High Contrast'.

I see my style as high-contrast, colorful and bold, often with a subtle social justice message hidden in the background. I'm an absolute color lover and also a bit of a maximalist when it comes to my style of art.

 What's the most important thing to making your illustrations?

One of the most important aspects of my practice is making work that expresses my convictions and values. I'm not exactly the most vocal or outgoing person, and so I tend to make art as a vehicle to communicate my views, express my opinion, talk about injustices and spread awareness about causes that are important to me. much to me.
