About seeking possibilities and altering the direction of your career

Before moving to London in the year 2017 I lived in a small town in Germany and worked freelance for a few months working as an After Effects animator. It wasn't a lot of creative opportunities. My abilities deteriorated rapidly, and I was extremely dissatisfied.

Moving to London and getting to know everybody who's a great animator in the city gave me the most significant boost. It was as if I said "Damn I'm with all the cool kids Now, I must put in my best."

After attending this year's Pictoplasma Event, I took an effort to enter the community of intriguing characters creators. It was clear that my characters perform best when they're 3D and I'm learning from scratch, which is hard but very satisfying!

My work was noticed at Greenhouse Animation, and I'm now represented as director with them.

concerning the X-Files project as well as the mystery of socks disappearing

One of the very first clients I worked on with my new style was my Covered by Lemonade clip.

Lemonade Insurance approached me to design a piece for their regularly scheduled Instagram collaboration with artists. Because the company is a content insurer , and the idea of adorable household items which could be in danger came in my head. That's how the X-Files project came to life.

Last winter, I was on locking down and rewatching the"x-files. So, the concept of a classic abduction by aliens appeared to be intuitive. The problem was that each character had to stay in the same spot at the point of the finalization to ensure it was possible that the loop could be closed so no one could actually be abducted. That is the reason I was thinking of making the washing machine pop open and one pink sock fly up towards the UFO.

As I created my UFO and giving it the small legs, I noticed how it could be put into place. The UFO has shed its shoes and is working to retrieve it!

It is my experience that telling a good story best involves combining different things that seem unconnected initially. To make something surprising take place as well as to give inanimate objects an identity by adding funny faces to their faces is an absolute blast to me!

It's covered by Lemonade and 2021.

The animation workflow

The process of creating my work begins by sketching my characters. Then I draw creating a narrative board. Then, I transformed it into an animation for Lemonade in order to convey the concept as well as the timing. From there, I go into Cinema 4D and model all my characters. It is also where I experiment with techniques and design frames.

Once the animation within Cinema 4D is done, I switch over into After Effects to do the compositing process and finalization. The light beam that is pink for instance it is created by After Effects.

is about audio effects, and in tandem with Phill Brookes

This was my very first collaboration I collaborated on with sound designer, Phil Brookes who really rocked it! His work raises the footage to a new stage and connects everything perfectly! This was an incredible project to work on I'm eager to make another one like this!

We've talked to Phil about his process for making sounds for use in his X-Files project. Take a listen to the discussion with Phil Brookes.

Presently, I'm working on learning ways to create rigs for characters as well as the techniques to make stunning textures using Cinema 4D and Redshift. I'm experimenting with mixing 2D animation with 3D, and I'm looking forward to seeing where my character design journey leads me to next!

Artists can get tips on how they can alter the course of their careers.

Some tips I can give for anyone looking to switch directions:

  1. Choose the method that fits your preferences best. Then, you can learn about it! Motion design may feel like you need to be aware of every program there is. It's not possible.
  2. Be aware of your eccentricity and never minimize the significance of your uniqueness. Your own uniqueness is the only thing you have. Your artistic voice is unique.
  3. Begin by taking your time, and then embrace your thoughts. Whatever is happening within your head, accept it before you can create the decision!
