Small-scale owner of a business in Brooklyn Carmen Ladipo, her interest in baking grew from an early age. "I've been a sucker for sweets from the moment I was a kid," Carmen tells . "In my time in middle school I attended a class that was similar to Home Economics, where we were instructed to bake cookies. When I discovered that I could satisfy my cravings for sweet treats in my own manner, and after that it ended."

However, it was only a couple of years afterwards that Carmen began to make money off her enthusiasm. She started small batches of cookies as a and running a business behind the scenes. "I'd moved from my hometown in the city of my birth to be living in New York City, and I was trying to figure out what I could do to make connections aged people," Carmen says. "I could be a part of the local climbing club and I would provide cookies to climbers and employees--a really effective way to meet new people." After having been "fervently motivated" frequently to promote her cakes, Carmen was able to take advantage of the extra time between jobs to establish her own food-related business in Brooklyn.

"It began as an excuse to be paid to bake cookies for friends that were around sometimes," Carmen jokes. "But within the past 5 year, Carmen's Cookies has evolved into an online shop that allows me to send cookies throughout all over the United States for strangers as well as friends."

We spoke to Carmen about the way she prioritizes environmental and social ramifications of her company the way she manages her solo business as she juggles other tasks and responsibilities, and the tools she employs to assist her in making Cookies work effortlessly.

Community development in local areas and the impact on society

The visitors to Carmen's Cookie website and the social media outlets will be greeted immediately by the warm and welcoming character of the company. The tagline is "Providing happiness for your bonding." Carmen's flavors include seasonal ones like the ras el-hanout and matcha lemon. They also have beloved traditional flavors like the brown butter chocolate chip with the clove of orange. You only need to look at the comments on her cakes to discover the amount of happiness these cakes bring to everyone around the world.

Since the beginning Carmen's Cookies has always been more than just selling cookies. "I think that business owners are accountable to the earth and also to their community to be aware of their impact in their community," Carmen says.

"There are a myriad of factors that contribute to the creation and marketing food items which are deserving of attention and scrutiny so that they do less environmental damage. Because of this, I'm conscious of the source of the ingredients I use and what the producers' view of their own environmental and social impact." Carmen is very transparent to her readers on where she gets the ingredients she uses. Her website is where you will also find an interactive tool that allows you to determine where she got her baking chocolate from.

And her commitment doesn't stop at this point. "It's essential for me to find how I can help support initiatives to increase fair food in the greater Brooklyn community,""" Carmen says.

"Every every year, I choose an organization that is directly involved with its local community for growth and economic and food sustainability. I give a percentage of the proceeds from the previous year's profits to charities that I choose as I believe that Carmen's Cookies to be able to impact on the area that it has chosen to call home." Facilitating the transfer of the hundreds of dollars that we've given to various regional and national charities that help communities in need of food with cookies is an incredible achievement."
