When Pooja Bavishi made the decision to start her ice cream company, Malai, she was able to do so with a clear, personal vision. "I launched Malai because I wanted to highlight the flavor that I grew up eating as a first generation Indian American in a popular and mainstream fashion," she says.

"Everyone has an ice cream memories from childhood which is usually associated with visiting your local ice cream shop to share a treat with your loved people," Pooja says. This nostalgia-infused fusion has taken Malai from a stand in local food halls and markets into freezers at grocery stores and pop-up carts all over New York City, and a bustling flagship store located in Brooklyn that offers both national and local delivery.
