When she was as a young girl, New Zealand-based designer and artist design consultant Evie Kemp loved art and design. "I used to draw all the time, redesigning my dollhouse or watching room makeovers on television." In her teens, Evie says, "I was very frightened of being different from others and did everything to avoid being noticed."

A desire to make an statement made her go to law school. However, while she was studying law "my mental health deteriorated," Evie says, "and I was forced to rest for 6 months. It was during that time that I started to recover I focused my efforts on finding out what it was I actually enjoyed which was why I chose to go to school for graphic design instead of." The return to the artwork she was awed by as a child changed her life. "It was through this process that I came to discover my individual voice and embrace every quirk I'd set away for too long."

In the 15 years that have passed since she made that step to concentrate on building her expertise in the area she is passionate about, her determination and expressive voice has enabled her to create her own company. "I am finding more and more proof that I'm more confident, artistic and vibrant than ever before," she says. "It's similar to the old "Which one was the first to be born: the chicken or the egg question.' thing I'm not sure if I get more comfortable and confident with myself as my work becomes more exuberant or more slack. It's not like my style is "developed," but I'm sure it's in the process of developing."
