When she was a little kid The New Zealand-based, maximalist artist and consultant for interior design Evie Kemp enjoyed designs and art. "I used to draw all the time or redesigning my dollhouse and watching makeovers of rooms on the television." As a teenager, Evie says, "I was very frightened by being different and was willing to do anything to avoid standing in the crowd."

A desire to be accepted led her to law school. But while in law school "my mental health deteriorated," Evie says, "and I was forced to stop working for six months. It was during that time, when I recovered I focused my attention on figuring which things I love the most which is why I chose to go to school for graphic design rather than." The return to her original love of art has had a profound effect on her. "It was in that way where I found my voice and accept my many flaws that I'd held down for a long time."

After deciding to concentrate on developing her skills in an area she's passionate about, Evie's enthusiasm and vocal range are helping her create her own business. "I find increasingly that I'm confident and artistic and colorful than ever," she says. "It's something like the old "Which one is first: either the chicken or the egg?' Something I'm not quite sure about is whether I get more comfortable and secure of myself, the more my work is more exuberant or vice versa. My style isn't something I would say is 'developed however, it is definitely in the process of developing."
