Cult Classic tells the tale of Lola, a magazine editor in New York who, though she's engaged recently, has an unease with her relationship. One evening, she meets one of her ex-boyfriends, then another. Lola is soon to realize that a cult run by her former boss intentionally putting the exes of these men within her path in order to conduct an experiment. The story that follows is an entertaining and thought-provoking story about reliving the past, and perhaps finding peace with it.
Sloane cannot pinpoint a particular "aha" moment to explain the idea behind the novel however, her personal experience with wellness and contemporary dating were incorporated into the manuscript. "I think that anybody reading this will be the ultimate wellness and dating expert today," she says. "We're all so immersed in these topics, that they can take the form of satire within the novels."
She did do some very specific research on cults in order to make sure that those specific details are exactly right. "I wanted manifestos, or instructions documents from within, so I could draw on the language for comedic purposes," Sloane says.
