Rio Newton has given tips for skincare when she wrote her work for many years. "The beauty and cosmetics industry, specifically, the skin care industry is oversaturated, it can be extremely confusing for those who aren't authorities on the subject to sift through," she says. "I always loved how rewarding it was to be able to consumers understand the market and discover products that make sense for them."

In 2017 a viral event took that advice to a wider audience than ever before. The actress shared the details of her routine for skincare following an acne flare-up that was painful and was passed around between her friends and the friends of her friends before finally making it into New York Magazine. Since the time, Rio has gone to esthetician school, launched a skincare consultancy, and published a book about the subject.

Read on to learn how she started her consultancy, how helps her keep the business running efficiently and how authenticity is crucial to the way she talks about skincare.

From viral article to business plan

Rio's viral skincare routine was one thing, but turning that moment into an opportunity took a long and more nervous journey.

"When I finished my esthetician school, I knew I wanted to start an enterprise which was more private and unique," Rio says. "I was totally scared and I'm sure that many people are in the beginning of a new business venture."

"When I started my business, I wanted to make sure I was structuring my meetings with the best way feasible, which is why I conducted an initial round of around 20 free consultations to relatives and friends before I launched and asked for their comments," she adds. "Because of this, I was able to get rid of the wrinkles after I had my first few paid customers. This was extremely important since it ensured that at the point I launched, I had so much practice and therefore launched my business with loads of trust."
