Installation and painting - The CreativeMindClass Blog
Nicole Mueller is a San Francisco-based visual artist. Her work includes large-scale paintings installation, murals, and murals inspired by the look that stained glass can produce. Driven by process the abstract pieces are highly saturated, built using layers of collage-like patterns. Her work explores the complexities of color, the state of change, the dichotomies that exist within painting, the change of the human condition, and the boundary between outside and inside, the intangible and tangible.
My background
I'm mostly a painter who is a full-time an artist in San Francisco, California.
My experience also covers painting murals, installation work in addition to doing arts administration and career advancement.
I was a student at The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore in Maryland, where I resided for a number of years prior to moving towards the west coast.
A significant portion of my work and mission is hosting Beyond the Studio with fellow artist Amanda Adams, a podcast designed to promote transparency in the art world by conducting interviews with contemporary artists about their career pathways.
About my style
My work is mostly unintentional that is driven by process. abstract, extremely saturated, constructed with layers of color and colors of collage-like shapes.
I make large-scale paintings with light-activated glass installations which mimic the effect of stained glass and murals. Within this work I'm exploring dichotomies and states of flux, and the line between the interior and exterior, the tangible and the intangible.
The key to creating my art
I think being consistent in your attendance to your work is essential. For me, creating a practice in the studio as well as setting goals for myself to continue moving forward made it easier for me to prioritize my time when life gets in the way. It also helps in knowing when to step back and take a break or rest (for days or a month, or perhaps more).
