Hiring virtual staff for specific positions on your team can be different from for specific projects.

Six steps to hire an online Assistant
Step 1: Document the tasks you want to outsource
Make a checklist of all the tasks and procedures you're planning to assign to your virtual Assistant. If these are things that you're already doing your own, you should create training materials (aka Standard Operating Procedures) for the tasks you're delegating. If you're hiring the services of a Specialized Virtual Assistant, document the results you'd like for them to achieve in lieu of specific assignments or procedures.
Second step: Make the job description
Once you have your list of tasks to delegate, you'll need prepare a description of the job for the role that will be responsible for those assignments.
Tasks that require specialized skills should not be included in the description of a job for General Virtual Assistant. The tasks you delegate to the General Virtual Assistant need to be of the same level of skill and rate per hour.
Your job description should contain:
- The background information you have about your business (your sector, the products you offer, and the people who are your customers or clients)
- Level of education, experience or other skills are required
- The list of the duties and responsibilities
- A list of all apps or tools they'll be employing

Once you have your job description ready the next step is to make it available online and then begin to accept applicants. One option is to post your job description directly to Craigslist (post in the location you'd like to employ in). Another option is to use an Virtual Assistant hiring service or directory.

If you don't enjoy being handled the way that you manage you Virtual Assistant, you're probably doing something wrong.
Schedule check-ins
Use a communication tool such as the Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, and Slack for quick checks-ins using your virtual Assistant. It could be between the start and at the end of their day, or every second day or perhaps weekly. You can do whatever is best for the two of you. Use this time to make sure they know what they're doing and that there isn't anything or someone (including you!) hindering them from accomplishing their work during the entire day.
Requires weekly reporting
At the end of each week, let your Virtual Assistant send you a summary of their activities during the week. Provide them with a template to use to send you their reports. Set up a system of feedback
