Honoring History, Empowering Progress: International Women's Day 2024

Every year on the 8th day of March, everyone gathers to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD). It's a day to acknowledge the incredible achievements of women, to reflect on the challenges they face and pledge to build an era where equality reigns. It's clear that this day was not a quick-fix event. It's the culmination of struggle with determination, perseverance and a steadfast commitment. We are proud of this day and invite you to join us when we embark on an enlightening tour through the fascinating story of IWD that is an example of the force of action from the whole community.

Beginning with Seeds of Change to a Global Movement

The seeds for IWD were sown during the first decade of the 20th century, a time when the fight for women's rights gained momentum. On the 8th of March in 1857, female workers marched in protest of low working conditions as well as substandard conditions for women working in the industries of textile. The demonstration demanded elimination of working hours, as well as the payment of a fair and reasonable living wages. A few years later, in 1908 on the 8th March a march organized by female workers in the needle trades took place to protest child labor, the working conditions at sweatshops and to insist that women have the right to vote.
