Geometric Illustrations - The CreativeMindClass Blog
Abstract and striking geometric drawings The drawings are based in graffiti by Marc David Spengler
A fundamental part in the process of making geometric illustrations is the anticipation of unforeseen results. Marc emphasizes that every form and every colour choice can be seen as an impulse reaction to those shapes and colours already drawn. Optical illusions, fake shadows transitions from flatness into spatiality, seemingly simple details - when presented in the the Ampersand Gallery in Portland this year, the works mesmerised the viewer.

"My Name is Marc David Spengler, I'm 25, and I'm living in a suburb in Stuttgart, Germany. Since the age of a youngster, I've enjoyed drawing a lot. When I was in 5th grade, I wrote that one of my goals was to be a car designer. A little bit later in my 12th grade year I got into the world of graffiti that has served as a major inspirational source for me from the beginning.

What is the reason artists choose to use geometric shapes?
There's no way to find an artist doing real graffiti in the present However, I'm watching geometric forms every day via social media, magazines and even books. After I graduated from school in 2014, I started learning about communication design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, where I'm still taking classes today under the tutelage of Patrick Thomas.
In addition to my academics In addition, I'm involved in exhibitions, brand collaborations, and my sketchbooks. When it comes to my illustrations I'm working mostly using abstract geometric forms and bright colour combinations that attempt to blend into an undefined frame. The goal of every illustration that I'm working on is to achieve harmony.

How to do geometric art?
In order to create geometric art I'm not doing draw with pencil beforehand, so a lot my drawings are imagined. I prefer to begin working from the outside, creating a silhouette of the background, after which I think about what could be within. This is why I am constantly responding to the shapes I've drawn previously and this makes the process interesting to me because I don't even know what it will appear when it's finished.

I prefer making small geometric illustrations because I have greater control over the overall composition. I also try not to overdo it with too many specifics. While drawing, I also like to experiment with the provided variables, such as adding an unreal shadow or making an optical illusion, since everything is feasible in the two-dimensional world."
The prints of Marc's geometric drawings can be purchased from Big Cartel, and you can keep abreast with his latest artwork via Instagram.
