Digital illustration process - The CreativeMindClass Blog

When I'm free I like to do 30 mins to 1 hour study or explorations, where I do what I feel like that day. It has helped me grow, but it also helped find which things I was interested in.

Today, I am able to focus on color, light, and also how to describe things in a way that is simple so that I do not have to be too detailed on everything. I tend to maintain my designs as close as possible to what I see in real life However, as time goes on, I'm looking to make shapes move further and also be more stylized in my art.

When I start a painting, generally speaking, I prefer to sketch out my main shapes first either in BW or straight in color. If I think it's essential first, I begin with linework first. When I've got a solid basis, I will map in the light shapes and shadows on layers. Then, I begin to draw or paint it in a variety of ways, from huge to tiny details.

In the Streets of London painting I used a similar process. To ensure clean edges and keep things organized I used a lot of layers. I also put the main light on another layer.

Layers also help me worry less about making mistakes, but when I'm comfortable with the stage I'm in with the work, I'll begin merging a few elements, but only keeping those things that I believe are essential.

Colours for me are very much a "feel" factor, so I just go for those that feel right. I also have different references which I use for help in choosing the perfect colours. Sometimes I blend references but others I use only the same.

It's definitely a good idea to study the theory of light and colour, so that you are aware of what can push to make the general colour scheme and value better.

It's a bit difficult for me to say what the key to making my art is... I simply like exploring various styles, media and subjects and am in the spirit of other artists.

I'm still so early in my journey as an artist and am very much still trying to determine my identity as an artist, and my personal style. One of the main differences in my life is that I don't think about it as much as I used to and I think that's making significant changes.

My Personal Background

Hello, my name's Bjork and I'm a visual artist. I'm currently working as a Concept Artist on games.

I come from a small island known as"the Faroe Islands and have always been creative in some way whether it was through storytelling or drawing or whatever. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in CG arts from The Animation workshop in Viborg, Denmark, in 2019 and started my first job in London later that year.

Nowadays, I'm mainly employed as a concept artist with Envar Studios but also do occasionally freelance work.

It's true that I'm generally more present with Twitter as compared to Instagram. In case anyone wants to buy prints I sell the prints through Inprnt.
