"Art as Escapism" The CreativeMindClass Blog

Jun 30, 2022

I'm from Venezuela. I grew up in a town which was in the tropical region, surrounded by palm trees and mountains. However, there was not a way for me to experience my surroundings in full (partly due to my parents' excessive protection and also because of the daily insecurity at home). For the vast majority of my early years, television as well as books were my primary ways of entertaining myself , along with drawing! I would spend hours drawing my favorite cartoon characters, as well as my loved ones, family members, pets I wasn't allowed to wear costumes, or really anything.

The sport was really a leisure pursuit at first, and I was certain that I would never leave Venezuela. My family decided then to move to UK and that transformed everything for me. At the age of 16 I was finally able to enjoy more independence, and I could travel to places by myself as well as contemplate what I would like to do.

My love of character design and narrative was what brought me to comics that then inspired me to draw. It all came together. After a few years of studies (and lots in work) I'm currently working as an illustrator working in London.

My style is striking, fun and a bit wild (in the best possible way!). At times, my style is simple, however, it can also be detailed, but every illustration has an animal or a person, or even an amazing picture. I love to believe that every illustration comes from the same place.

My main goal is having fun with it. It's easy to imagine elements that made me smile growing in my childhood Bright colors and fun characters who can make for sly, funny scenarios, and little things that you can lose yourself into. The goal of my work is to record all the elements that make me smile when I create an original piece of art. If I am able to inspire the reader to feel happy or happy, or like they've found some interesting object, that's exactly what I was looking for.

"Another important aspect for me is humor. Over time, I've realized that I'm not an artist to produce abstract or serious artwork. However, I'm pretty good in creating light-hearted art that brings an individual's smile. I'm playing according to my talents at present."
