Art and authenticity - The CreativeMindClass Blog
The process of connecting to your authentic self. The core of who one is.
Angela Maria Sierra, a spanish-born artist who portrays the real herself and the emotions she's feeling. The result is in the form of models with a rich emotional life filled with sensitivity to ease and pleasure.
She is better known in the world of art as Riso Chan - a portrait artist and an artist who is currently a teacher in The Netherlands. She just started her new art journey by creating videos and her very own YouTube channel! It's something that she wanted to do for a long period of. In bravery, despite the discomfort of talking to cameras, she made a fun-to-watch video about herself as well as her work and the creative environment in which she lives.
Riso Chan on embracing her authentic self in artwork:
My work is very emotional. I work on portraits that portray the things I am feeling. I have always been a sensitive individual. When I was young I've had a feeling that always felt a bit uneasy and I attempted to get it out of my system. (...) When you get older and realize that it's alright and everyone feels differently. I decided to use my emotional energy that I carry into my daily life and start painting. I draw on it to stimulate my creative juices and generate the imagination of others. It's amazing that the thing I had been striving to get rid of all day and then, suddenly I put it down on sheet of paper and it was like a huge feeling of relief. Finally, there is a place where I can use this sensitivity, I can use these emotions, pains, and joys and write them down. The experience was truly wonderful and led me to a place of gratefulness. The experience began to resonate with a lot of people too. It was a time of opening myself to putting ideas onto paper that I had never thought of prior to. Instead of trying to be like other artists who previously "made it", I really tuned to what I wanted to express and the person I am as an individual. I accepted something I was not happy with about myself , and then realized it is actually my superpower. I am really happy being my authentic, sensitive self.
