My personal background

My name is Ekaterina Boguslavskaya. I was born in Russia.

I went to school in Moscow however, I also spent my summers outdoors in the countryside.

The water was not hot The house was heated with a furnace, and the neighbors raised goats and cows. Wonderful times! Besides nature and bicycles I was obsessed with animated cartoons. All my peers grew up and stopped liking cartoons. But I did exactly the opposite! I realized it could become my favorite thing to do. That's how I got into film school in Moscow, Russia.

My style

I would like my artwork to always evoke some very soulful emotions. It's like sitting by the fireplace after an afternoon of ski or hiking in the mountains.

My procedure

I enjoy the process of drawing. There's something that it shares with meditation. When I'm working, it may get dark outside, I'll get hungry, but nothing really matters while I'm working.

Presently, I am employed in the industry of animation and illustration... And there are board games too. It is a joy to do the work I do.

I've always been drawing a lot. But it started to look better after I completed my studies. Because I began to decide the way and what I would draw.

My suggestion to skeptical visual artists

Consider what you enjoy and enjoy the thing you like about it. Do your best to not listen to the opinions of others who you don't like what they do. All will be well! You will meet people who love what you do.

My technique

I sketch almost every thing using my iPad, Procreate. I sometimes finish some thing using Photoshop.

The iPad has really changed my life. Now I work in bed, in libraries, in cafes. It is my choice of where for work and move around, I am not confined to sitting on my laptop. Therefore, the iPad is an amazing tool that combines classic drawing and computer-generated drawing.

The iPad is loaded with great brushes. For example, I got watercolor brushes through "The Watercolor MaxPack - Brushes for Procreate". Every time I use them, I am ecstatic. I use the brushes. They are very close to the real thing as they can get.

A few words about the way I conduct my work

I attempt to draw an approximate outline of objects. As I find hard edges rough and cold.

Sometimes I make my shadows cold blueish using the multiply setting. Sometimes I use overlay. It's a bit confusing for me. much about it.

Procreate offers some excellent blur settings. Try them out! There are several kinds of them, and they're excellent. The majority of the time, I do with traditional materials on canvas or paper.

I'm still looking, learning about my subject, and trying to get closer to my image that I enjoy by doing my own projects.

About the Teriberka series

I did after traveling there (to Teriberka). Russian North, the Arctic. The town was once built ships to take a great deal of fish. Today, it's a little abandoned.

Google it, please! It's beautiful.

I always like the North.

I like the people, the animals as well as the multitude of colors of Moss. Small berries are packed with vitamins, more than the tropical fruit. It's quite amazing.

Northern Cliffs appear to be the skin of huge elephants! These are the emotions which I have tried to portray in these photos.

The Tiny Things series

The idea came to my mind as I was tired of my job, the flu as well as the city.

Pictures taken in the woods

I purchased a macro lens and went deep into the woods. And how much incredible beauty was under my feet! Each and every inch was stunning. It gave me a lot of creative energy. This is how the idea came to be.

Whatever happens, there is a miracle that is right there!

How can I plan my work time

The hardest thing is to keep your time and sleep in check as well as refuse proposals that aren't suitable. Or to take on many tasks in order to stay afloat without getting tired by doing what you enjoy. This is all I'm still trying to master.

The creative blockages

The most difficult aspect is actually the procedure itself - sometimes it doesn't come out as expected. The result isn't what I want. You can go through up to eight hours and get angry. Then, a few days later, you can redo it in a matter of minutes and it looks great. What's that? Magic.

A few tips on how to overcome creativity blocks

When there is some kind of task - do not get up immediately to draw (if it's possible). Your brain should be able to process the task as you go along busy doing other things. It's the way I see that the most effective solutions will come.

How I view my work

If I was to evaluate my own work - I would never give myself the grade of "excellent". It's exhausting, and I am a slave to myself. On the other hand it pushes me ahead.

Drawing is like a great adventure!

If you have tickets for a destination, and you already know something from Google and something else will be surprising your right there. So far, it seems like a cool adventure to me.
